Igor Keller Takes a Wild Turn With “Monster Zero”

Through Igor Keller’s creativity Longboat Music is back once again with a new album. Released on October 31, The Merry Blacksmith’s Song Bucket opens with Monster Zero,” a song that opens the door into this next imaginative phase.

Keller has always enjoyed playing with narrative and this time, his inspiration comes from a source you wouldn’t immediately predict: Godzilla movies

“I wanted to create my own version — one without Godzilla to save the world,” he explains.

That decision drives the heart of the album. In Monster Zero, the world is in trouble, chaos is unfolding, and there is no hero coming to rescue us. At first glance, the idea sounds heavy, but this is Igor Keller. The concept is delivered through wit, playfulness, and clever lyrics.

One line warns, “Beware of Monster Zero, a beast you won’t forget,” while another contrasts false optimism with humor: “If you think we’ll stop him, you’re probably smoking crack.”

Keller is pointing out how we often reassure ourselves with stories of rescue instead of facing reality. Yet rather than being dark, the song feels strangely fun.

And then there’s the ending, the part Keller loves to tease. He closes the song with a twist that’s best experienced, not explained, so hurry up and press play.

It’s the kind of unexpected creative choice that makes Keller’s work recognizable: playful, self-aware, and always looking for the twist.

The Merry Blacksmith’s Song Bucket was recorded soon after Longboat’s Word Gets Around, got completed. The new album builds on the short-story approach of his recent work, but this time there’s a stronger sci-fi thread.

Igor Keller loves experimenting with music genres. Whether it’s electronic blues, or jazz-influenced pop, Longboat remains a space where genre boundaries don’t apply. He writes about technology, anxiety, modern life’s contradictions, and the strange humor inside it all.
