GUNS N’ ROSES Explains AXL ROSE’s Onstage Meltdown & It’s Pretty Silly

Guns N’ Roses‘ Saturday night gig over the last week in Buenos Aires got off to a rocky (and loud) start when vocalist Axl Rose visibly lost his temper during the band’s opening number, “Welcome to the Jungle”. The second of two nights at Estadio Huracán, the show was meant to kick off the next leg of their Latin American tour… but then things got a little nuts.

Fan-shot footage quickly made its way online showing Rose marching up to the drum riser mid-song and kicking new drummer Isaac Carpenter‘s bass drum — not once, but twice. Moments later, he launched his microphone into the kit and stormed off, ripping off his leather jacket and telling the crowd, “So, I’ll just try and wing this!”

Now Guns N’ Roses has taken to social media to explain why Rose had a meltdown and it doesn’t really make a ton of sense. According to the band: “During the opening song at our recent Buenos Aires concert, Axl‘s in-ear monitor pack had only the percussion in his ears versus his entire mix. The issue was fixed by our tech team by the third song, and we had a great night. The situation had nothing to do with Isaac Carpenter‘s playing, who is top notch and a great drummer.”

Technical issues happen and they’re massively frustrating – I get it. But is flipping a shit and throwing your microphone at the drummer who didn’t do anything wrong really the way to handle it? Also it’s been five days and Guns N’ Roses is just addressing this dumb situation now. As a refresher, watch the incident below. It’s a little childish.
