Gary Glitter Faces New Charges of Sexual Abuse Against a Minor
Gary Glitter, the disgraced 82-year-old glam-rock hitmaker who is currently serving a 16-year sentence for sexually abusing minors during the height of his fame, is set to face new charges in England for alleged sex abuse crimes against children.
The Metropolitan Police announced on Thursday that they are charging the singer, whose legal name is Paul Gadd, with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. Reports indicate that the alleged crimes, involving one victim, occurred between 1978 and 1981.
Gadd is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5. The allegations first surfaced in January 2025, leading to police questioning of Gadd that July. According to authorities, specialist officers are currently providing the alleged victim with support.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Bethan David said in a statement.
Gadd was previously convicted in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980. While he was briefly released on probation in 2023, he was reincarcerated after violating the terms of his release. His history of legal issues dates back to 1999, when he was jailed for possessing child pornography. Following his deportation from Cambodia in 2002 under suspicion of sex offenses, he was also sentenced by a Vietnamese court to four years in prison for committing obscene acts with two young girls.
Despite his extensive criminal record, the singer—whose track “Rock N’ Roll, Part 2” remained a staple in sporting arenas and films like Joker for decades—has consistently denied having a sexual interest in children.
